Emile B

Hi, I’m Emile! I am currently completing a Bachelor of Science in Data Science, and I have always had a strong passion for learning and helping others succeed academically. In my matric year, I achieved excellent results across all seven of my subjects, including Accounting, Maths, IT, Physical Science, Afrikaans, English, and Life Orientation. Having tutored since high school, I have developed a confident, friendly, and approachable teaching style that helps students feel comfortable and supported throughout their learning journey.

As a tutor, my goal is not only to help students improve their marks, but also to help them genuinely enjoy and understand the subject they are working on. I believe that every student is capable of success when they are guided with patience, encouragement, and the right learning approach. I aim to empower my students, build their confidence, and help them achieve the results they desire in a way that feels engaging and rewarding rather than stressful.

Outside of academics, I spend much of my free time horse riding. My horse and I share a very close bond, so I ride almost every day. When he needs a rest, I enjoy practising ground archery to improve my mounted archery skills. Whenever I have some quieter time, I also love reading. I believe that maintaining balance through hobbies and personal interests is important, and I bring that same positive and motivated mindset into my tutoring sessions.

Mangaliso N

Hi, I’m Mangaliso! I am currently completing a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical & Mechatronic Engineering. In my matric year, I achieved 5 distinctions, including 80% in English, 89% in Maths, 86% in IT, 85% in Music, and 89% in Physical Science, along with strong marks in Life Orientation. My academic background has strengthened my problem-solving skills, patience, and ability to explain concepts in a clear and practical way.

As a tutor, I aim to spend meaningful one-on-one time with each learner to help improve both their marks and their understanding of the work. I understand that classroom environments do not always cater to every learner’s needs, which is why I focus on creating a calm, supportive, and encouraging space where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. I am friendly, approachable, and kind, and I believe these qualities help me connect well with learners who may need extra patience and reassurance. My goal is to build confidence in my students while helping them develop clarity and independence in their studies.

In my spare time, I enjoy music and occasionally play the guitar. I also enjoy gaming, learning about cars, and working out. Coding is another interest of mine, although I have not yet done many personal projects in that area. I believe my broad range of interests helps me relate well to different learners and keeps my teaching style engaging, adaptable, and encouraging.

Kyle M

Hi, I’m Kyle! I am currently completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Information Systems, where I am developing a strong foundation in both business and technology. In my matric year, I consistently achieved high marks across all my subjects, with particularly outstanding results in Accounting, where I earned 92%, and Life Sciences, where I achieved 99%, reflecting both my dedication and effective study methods.

I have been tutoring for over three years, and during this time I have come to understand that a student’s biggest challenge is often psychological rather than academic. Many students feel overwhelmed and assume the work is too difficult, which can prevent them from putting in the necessary effort. As a tutor, my goal is to help shift this mindset towards a more positive and confident approach. I focus not only on explaining content clearly, but also on teaching valuable study skills and encouraging a strong commitment to education that students can carry with them throughout their lives. I aim to guide, support, and foster independent thinking, without spoon-feeding answers.

In my spare time, I enjoy a range of creative and technical pursuits, including photography, cinematography, video editing, and photo editing. I am also passionate about live event setup, particularly lighting and rigging, which allows me to combine creativity with practical problem-solving. These interests complement my academic journey and help me bring a well-rounded and engaging perspective to my tutoring.

Juandré L

Hi, I’m Juandré! I’m currently completing a Bachelor of Science in Physics, and I’ve always been passionate about understanding how the world works. In my matric year, I achieved three distinctions, including 86% in Afrikaans, 85% in Life Orientation, and 91% in IT, along with strong marks in English, Maths, Engineering and Graphic Design, and Physical Science. I’ve always enjoyed both the analytical and creative sides of learning, which has shaped the way I approach my studies and tutoring.

As a tutor, my goal is to genuinely support my students and help them feel confident in their abilities. I know that subjects like Maths and Science can sometimes feel overwhelming, but with the right guidance and good study habits, they become much more manageable. I focus not only on explaining the work clearly and patiently, but also on helping students build strong study skills that will benefit them beyond a single test or exam. I want my sessions to feel comfortable, encouraging and productive.

Outside of academics, I enjoy reading and constantly learning more about science, physics and philosophy. I’m also interested in photography, writing and music, and I spend time playing games with friends — from video games to in-person tabletop role-playing games. I believe staying curious and having a variety of interests keeps learning exciting, and I try to bring that same energy and relatability into my tutoring sessions.

Jean-Luc M

Jean-Luc matriculated with excellent results across all his subjects and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. His studies have strengthened his analytical, technical and problem-solving skills, which he brings into his tutoring.

Jean-Luc has been tutoring since 2021 and is passionate about helping students build both their understanding and confidence. Rather than relying on memorisation, he focuses on helping learners understand the ‘why’ behind a concept. He is patient and adaptable, breaking down challenging topics into manageable steps and encouraging students to think critically. He takes the time to make sure each concept is properly understood, helping learners feel more comfortable and confident when tackling difficult material.

Jean-Luc is a highly recommended BrightSparkz tutor, known for his structured and motivating approach. He is also highly proficient with online tutoring and makes effective use of digital platforms, virtual classrooms and interactive tools to create engaging lessons. He is fully equipped to tutor Maths, Physics, IT and IT-Java across various grade levels.

Carl-Phillip L

Hi, I’m Carl-Phillip! I’m a passionate and experienced tutor with a strong academic background, ready to help you achieve your learning goals. I recently completed a BCom with a double major in Finance and Information Systems, giving me a comprehensive understanding of both quantitative and analytical subjects. During my matric year, I achieved six distinctions, demonstrating my commitment to academic excellence: English (84%), Afrikaans (93%), Maths (82%), Life Orientation (90%), Accounting (87%), and History (88%). I’ve been tutoring for many years, helping students to not just pass their exams, but to truly master the material.

My philosophy as a tutor is centred around empowerment and deep understanding. My aim is to ensure the student understands the underlying concepts and has the tools they need to help themselves in the long run. I focus on teaching conceptually at an abstract level first, showing the context and helping you understand the full picture—the ‘why’—before diving into practice. I believe a good tutor works to make themselves redundant; my ultimate goal is to help the learner know how to learn and approach questions independently until my help is no longer needed. This approach builds confidence and creates a lasting foundation for all future academic endeavours.

When I’m not focused on teaching, my personal interests keep my mind active and my body healthy. I’m a keen advocate for Health and Fitness, specifically enjoying strength and combat sports. I also have a fascination with Computer Science, Film, Neuroscience, and Languages, and I love to Travel. These varied interests give me a broad perspective and allow me to connect with students on different levels, often bringing real-world context into our lessons. I look forward to helping you unlock your full potential!

My approach is built on patience, adaptability, and a genuine interest in seeing my students grow academically and personally.

Outside of tutoring, I am passionate about sport and staying active. I’m a people’s person who thrives on connecting with others, whether in a classroom or on the sports field. In 2022, I was a rowing coach at St John’s, working with the U14 and U15 teams – an incredibly rewarding experience I only stepped away from due to my move to Cape Town.
