Nwabisa D. – “As a first-language isiZulu speaker and KwaZulu-Natal native currently undertaking my Master’s degree in isiZulu, I have tutored students up to tertiary level for more than 3 years.”
Andiswa G. – “I achieved above 90% in isiZulu in my matric year, have been tutoring isiZulu for 4 years at beginner, primary, secondary as well as tertiary level. I pride myself on personalized teaching methods that ensure results that are consistent and meaningful.”
Murpry P. – “Throughout my high school career, Zulu has always been my highest mark , never achieving less than 92% in any tests and exams. For 5 consecutive years, I won the Manitshana trophy at Sacred Heart College an IEB school in Observatory, for being the highest achiever in IsiZulu. In the years 2014, 2015 and 2016, I got to the final rounds of the IsiZulu Olympiad. In 2016 I was awarded a gold medal and trophy for being first in Gauteng for the Zulu Olympiad.”
Megan D. – “At the end of matric, I got 84% for isiZulu first additional language. I was especially proud of this because isiZulu is not my mother tongue. I worked hard and learned the rules well to achieve my distinction. As a result, my knowledge of noun classes, sentence structure and the exceptions is very good. I do not have the vast vocabulary of a home language speaker, however, I gain new words in the hospital wards every week.”
Zinhle M. – “As a native speaker of isiZulu and siSwati, which are similar in syntax and grammar, I tutor isiZulu at beginner level. As an LLB and Masters graduate in the humanities, I have extensive experience teaching students language and communication skills, predominantly in English. However, I have become increasingly passionate about centering indigenous languages and have brought this experience to bear on tutoring isiZulu.”
Andile H. – “I am originally Xhosa; I have been doing isiZulu from Grade 3, and in my Matric year I achieved 91% for isiZulu. For most of my life I have been exposed the isiZulu language and culture, I can confidently say I am fluent in the language. I am very comfortable speaking isiZulu, and therefore teaching it.”
Langutelani S. – “I’m currently an intern teacher at the African Union International School, and am completing my BEd studies through UNISA. I am a language teacher, I teach English, Sepedi and Isizulu. I’m also a native Sepedi and Isizulu speaker. I still have lots to learn about Isizulu myself but I also have much I can teach about Isizulu.”
Siphokazi K. – “Having isiZulu as my home language has been AMAZING! As isiZulu is one of the Nguni languages, it enables me to understand the basics of languages like isiXhosa, isiSwati and isiNdebele, making it easier for me to communicate! Utilizing the Zulu proverbs and idioms I know boosts my confidence and makes me look sophisticated.”
Zama M. – “I studied Zulu throughout my high school and obtained a 93 % during my final Matric results. I would love to teach my home language to individuals interested in learning the language and students currently doing the language at school who are struggling and would love to do better their marks.”
Nonkululeko S. – “Zulu is not only a language to me, but also my culture that I still practice. Growing up and going to school in Durban, I took isiZulu as a subject from Grade 1 to Grade 12. For my Grade 12 final exams in 2017, I received a distinction (91%) for isiZulu as my First Additional Language.”
Lwazi-Lwandile S. – “I am a first language IsiZulu Speaker and was part of IEB’s 2018 top 1% matriculants in IsiZulu. I tutored IsiZulu to my classmates and younger grades whilst still in high school and started formally tutoring IsiZulu in 2019.”
Lindelwa K. – “IsiZulu is my home language, and I was the only one at my school to get a distinction in IsiZulu in Matric, and was awarded the GDE Star for Life top performer award for IsiZulu at my school.”
Neliswa N. – “I work as a legal researcher in rural Margate, where I help with translations from English to Zulu. I’ve also been tutoring isiZulu since 2008.”
Samkelo Z. – “I am a native isiZulu speaker and matriculated with an A in isiZulu. At UKZN I assisted other students who had to go through the compulsory isiZulu course. This year I have started an initiative to teach basic app development and design to the youth of my community in isiZulu.”
