Everyone!
Study skills are rarely taught in schools and when touched on, schools typically cover only the basics of study methods without considering each child’s unique learning style. Our Study Skills Crash Course bridges that gap, equipping learners to study smarter, not just harder. Whether your child is a high achiever, doing “just fine,” or finding schoolwork challenging, this course builds confidence, independence, and the tools they need to succeed in tests and exams.
During the 2 online coaching sessions, an experienced and trained facilitator will cover these topics, in an age-appropriate way and tailored to any special needs or learning barriers that may exist:
The BrightSparkz Study Skills Crash Course is facilitated online, giving you the flexibility to choose exactly when and where suits your family best! Our course content has been optimised for online delivery and all of our facilitators have a proven track record of getting exceptional results by engaging each learner as an individual.

Thando has been tutoring since 2013 and brings a wealth of knowledge to the Study Skills Crash Course. She specialises in adapting the programme for university students, making it highly relevant for their academic demands. With her background in supporting students with learning challenges, she helps learners of all levels discover strategies that truly work for them.

Sidney is one of our most experienced Study Skills facilitators, with a proven track record of guiding students through the course with patience and expertise. She has extensive experience working with neurodivergent learners and students facing a variety of learning challenges, ensuring that every learner feels supported and empowered.

An accomplished and high-energy facilitator, Larsine is loved by learners for her engaging approach to the Study Skills Crash Course. She is skilled at making sessions interactive and motivating, and can also present parts of the course in Afrikaans when needed, ensuring accessibility and comfort for a wider range of learners.

Mabatho is an experienced Maths tutor and trained Study Skills facilitator, bringing both subject expertise and study strategy know-how to her sessions. She is passionate about helping learners strengthen their academic foundations while equipping them with practical tools for long-term success.
“Tristan learnt a lot and I’m sure we will see the benefit of it. My son mentioned that he has already implemented the colour coding and mind mapping systems that he learnt from Lauren, and that he looks forward to seeing an improvement in his results :)”
“Luca was very taken with Lauren and they had a fantastic session! Lauren was great and Luca was quite motivated after. The proof will obviously be in the results this term.”
Do I need to attend the course with my child?
Your child’s facilitator will spend the first few minutes getting to know them, and you are welcome to sit in briefly if you’d like. Once any questions are answered, we recommend stepping out so the facilitator can build a strong connection with your child and minimise distractions. After the sessions, you’ll receive a detailed Feedback Report and practical tips to support your child’s study journey at home.
Why is it called a “Crash Course”?
The BrightSparkz Study Skills Crash Course is designed as a comprehensive introduction to study skills. It gives learners a strong foundation by helping them understand their individual learning style and which study methods work best for them. While it’s not an in-depth, long-term program, it provides a clear starting point. Learners can build on this base with booster sessions or subject-specific tutoring to reinforce confidence and handle more challenging material.
Which online platform are sessions presented on?
Our facilitators usually work via MS Teams, Google Meet or Zoom, but they’re flexible and will confirm with you beforehand which platform works best for your family. We aim to make the experience as smooth and convenient as possible for parents and learners.
What if my child has ADHD or other learning challenges?
BrightSparkz has specialist facilitators experienced in working with neurodivergent learners, including those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia and other learning challenges. Sessions are tailored with interactive techniques (such as brain breaks and movement activities) and digital tools (embedding videos and using games) that keep learners engaged, supported, and encouraged throughout.
Can older primary school learners do the high school program?
Yes! If your child is mature for their age and curious about more in-depth topics (like how the brain and memory work), they are welcome to choose the high school option. This ensures the course is both challenging and rewarding for them.
Can this course be done in-person?
We don’t offer the course in-person. The course has been specifically optimised for online delivery, incorporating multimedia tools. Our facilitators are highly skilled at engaging different learning styles virtually, ensuring the same high-quality experience for learners no matter where in the country – or the world – they are.
What ages is the Study Skills Crash Course suitable for?
The course is available in two versions: one for learners in Grades 4-7 and one for high school learners. Each version is age-appropriate, but both are designed to be engaging, practical, and easy to apply right away.
That said, we have presented these courses to learners as young as in Grade 2 and as old as post-grad students.
How long is the course?
The BrightSparkz Study Skills Crash Course is delivered over two interactive online sessions, each lasting about an hour. This format keeps learners focused while still covering everything they need to start studying effectively.
Can both sessions be done in one sitting?
While both sessions be done in one sitting, we do not advise it. The break between the sessions allows learners to process what they’ve learned and think through any questions that they might have, relevant to their specific situations.
How quickly will I see results?
Many parents notice improvements in their child’s motivation, organisation, and confidence almost immediately after the course. Of course, lasting results come with continued practice, but learners leave with practical tools they can apply to their studying straight away.
What makes the BrightSparkz Study Skills Crash Course different from free study tips online?
While study tips are easy to find online, they are generic and may not suit your child’s unique learning style. Our Study Skills Crash Course is personalised, interactive, and led by trained facilitators who guide learners to discover what truly works for them. The difference really is in the one-on-one coaching.
How soon can my child get started?
From submitting your online form, to getting started with your first session, can take approximately 2 working days if there are no delays in providing information and receiving payment for the course.
How are university students accommodated in the BrightSparkz Study Skills Crash Course?
Our experienced facilitators adapt each course to the individual learner or student. For tertiary students, they focus more on understanding how the brain works and how to design study strategies that work for students who need to cover massive volumes of content. They further adapt each session based on what field of study a student is in, offering advice that is tailored and proven to work. Our well-trained facilitators understand that the demands of tertiary study can differ based on the year of study you’re in and your faculty.
