What You Need To Know About Adult Matric

The Adult Matric course gives individuals the opportunity to get their matric certificate at any age over 21. This is specifically ideal for individuals who left school after receiving their Grade 9 certificate and are looking to further their education. 

What is Adult Matric? 

Adult Matric is a matric course that helps you work towards your Grade 12 certificate. After applying for your Adult Matric, you will be required to complete the course in a specified amount of time. After passing your exams, you will receive a Matric certificate. 

What Are The Requirements? 

If you are thinking of applying to complete your Adult Matric, you have to meet the following requirements: 

  • Have a Grade 9 certificate: To apply for your Adult Matric, you must have at least a Grade 9 certificate. You will not be able to apply without one. 
  • Be at least 21 when writing the Adult Matric exams: You can apply to write your Adult Matric at 19 but you must be at least 21 years of age when writing your Adult Matric exams. 

Why Should I Do My Adult Matric? 

There are many reasons for you to pursue your Adult Matric. These include: 

  • Higher earning potential: With a Matric certificate, your earning potential is double what it would be with a Grade 11 certificate. 
  • Self-confidence: By finishing your Matric certificate, you are allowing yourself to achieve something. You will feel more accomplished and have many more opportunities because of your hard work. It will also show you what you are capable of.
  • More job opportunities: Having a Matric certificate means more job opportunities. Many employers require that you have a matric certificate to apply for openings. 
  • Being able to further your education: With a matric certificate, you can further your education. Whether it is at a college or a university, you will increase your earning potential and employment opportunities. 

Are There Other Alternative Options to Adult Matric? 

Thinking about doing your Adult Matric also means looking at other options: 

  • Matric Upgrade: If you completed your Matric exams but want to improve your marks, this is the option for you. With a Matric Upgrade, you can choose which subjects you want to improve or you can select new subjects. 
  • Study without a Matric certificate: There are various courses that you can study without a Matric certificate
  • Matric equivalent certificates: The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers offer two courses that double as Matric equivalent certificates. These can be very useful if you are not academic and are looking to specialize after Grade 10. Click here to learn more. 

Can I Do It In 6 Months? 

You cannot complete your Adult Matric in 6 months. You can however write your Adult Matric exams when you have studied and believe you are ready. Keep in mind that you must be over 21 to write your exams. 

Applying at 19 means studying for 2 years before you will be able to write your final Adult Matric exams. 

Adult Matric VS High School Matric 

The only difference between Adult Matric and High School Matric is the age that you complete it. The certificate you get at the end of either will be exactly the same.
