Esihle M

Hi, I’m Esihle! I am currently completing my Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and bring a strong academic foundation to my tutoring practice. In my matric year, I achieved excellent results, including two distinctions. I scored 84% in Maths and 82% in Life Orientation, alongside achieving strong marks in subjects like Zulu, Geography, Physical Science, and Life Science. My comprehensive understanding across these varied subjects allows me to connect with students on a range of topics and truly understand the academic pressures they face.

As a tutor, my primary aims are to provide academic assistance and actively motivate students to unlock their full potential. I believe that effective learning goes beyond just rote memorisation; it requires building confidence and a genuine understanding of the material. My goal is to be a consistent, positive role model—someone my students can look up to—who inspires them to set ambitious goals and develop the independent study skills needed for long-term academic success. I tailor my approach to each student’s unique learning style, ensuring that every session is productive, engaging, and focused on tangible progress.

Outside of my studies and tutoring, I am passionate about community involvement. I dedicate time to engaging in community outreach programs, volunteering at schools or educational non-profits, and participating in mentorship initiatives to support students beyond the traditional tutoring setting. Furthermore, I value professional networking; I actively build connections with other educators, attend education conferences, and join professional associations related to tutoring and teaching. This commitment to continuous professional development ensures I am always exchanging ideas and collaborating on best practices to provide the highest standard of support for my students.

Hello! I’m Luke, and I have successfully completed my Bachelor of Education in the Intermediate Phase, giving me a professional background in teaching and learning strategies. Academically, I hold a strong foundation from my matric year, where I achieved six distinctions, including 81% in English, 88% in Afrikaans, 89% in Maths Literacy, 82% in Life Orientation, 84% in Business Studies, and 89% in History, alongside achieving strong marks in Geography. Ultimately, my goal is not just to improve grades, but to help prepare them for life by equipping them with transferable skills like effective learning and critical analysis.

My professional experience perfectly complements my tutoring approach. I successfully transitioned into teaching Grade 4 as part of a school that had just introduced primary education, allowing me to help establish the foundation phase curriculum. Furthermore, I have consistently improved learners’ performance in Maths through the use of differentiated teaching methods, proving my ability to adapt and achieve tangible results. Outside of education, I maintain a structured training routine to balance my full-time teaching responsibilities with personal fitness goals, showing dedication and the ability to maintain a demanding schedule.

Ashlyn K

Hello! I’m Ashlyn, and I’m currently completing my Bachelor of Education in the Foundation Phase. Since achieving a strong overall mark in my matric year, I’ve been dedicated to tutoring, which I’ve been doing since 2022. My goal as a tutor is to create an incredibly positive and encouraging environment where students feel safe and confident. I focus on providing genuine one-on-one support, meeting each student exactly where they are at academically. I always strive to help students overcome any fear of asking questions, ultimately boosting their self-confidence and acting as a positive role model in their educational journey.

Beyond my academic studies and tutoring, much of my time is dedicated to working with young people and serving my community. I am currently a Section Head—meaning I lead a team of youth leaders—for my church’s youth programme for children in Grade R-1, having previously served the Grade 4-5 age group last year. I’m also a passionate advocate for community upliftment, serving as a member and the Secretary for the board of the non-profit organisation, Raising Hope SA. This volunteer work complements my extensive experience working with children, including the rewarding time I spent volunteering at the Hope Cape Town preschool for children with disabilities.

I absolutely love working with children and have developed a special passion for and experience with children and teenagers who have disabilities and learning challenges. I believe in making learning accessible and enjoyable for everyone. When I’m not studying or volunteering, I find relaxation in reading and music; I’m actively involved in my church’s worshipping team for both the youth and Sunday services. All these experiences have cultivated in me the patience, dedication, and leadership skills necessary to be an effective and inspiring tutor.

Boikano M

Hi, I’m Boikano! I’m currently completing a BEd, majoring in Mathematics and Information Technology. As part of my degree, I’ve gained valuable practical experience working with students and applying what I’ve learnt in real classroom settings. These opportunities have helped me develop both my teaching techniques and my ability to explain concepts clearly and confidently.

As a tutor, my goal is to help students build a strong foundation in their learning so that they can understand topics more deeply and feel less pressured. I want my students to know why they are doing what they’re doing, not just how to do it. I enjoy making lessons engaging and approachable, and I always aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas.

I would describe myself as patient, reliable, and not intimidating, which I believe are important qualities in a tutor. I enjoy finding different ways to explain mathematical ideas so that they make sense to each learner. Outside of my studies, I love playing chess, cooking, and singing—activities that help me stay focused and creative. I genuinely enjoy helping others understand mathematics, and I look forward to supporting students in building their confidence and skills.

I’ve been tutoring since 2021, and I especially enjoy helping students navigate subjects like Geography—one of my strongest areas during matric, where I achieved excellent results alongside English and Afrikaans. I understand the importance of a supportive learning environment and aim to help learners not only improve academically but also grow in confidence and curiosity.

As a tutor, I take a holistic approach. While I focus on delivering subject knowledge—particularly in high school Geography—I also aim to nurture cognitive development, emotional growth, and independent thinking skills. I believe that learning should be engaging and empowering, helping students discover how they learn best and encouraging them to take ownership of their education. Geography is more than maps and memorization; it’s about understanding the world, and I love helping students connect classroom content to real-life contexts.
