Alison D

Hi, I’m Alison! I’ve completed a BA Law degree with a major in Criminology, and I’m passionate about guiding others through learning with patience and purpose. In my matric year, I achieved a distinction and developed a strong academic foundation that I’ve carried into my tutoring. I’m fluent in Afrikaans, English, and Portuguese, which allows me to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and support them in the language they’re most comfortable with. I’ve been tutoring since 2017 and have experience helping learners grow in both knowledge and confidence.

As a tutor, I believe I’m there to step in when a learner feels unsure or stuck — someone who can offer clarity, encouragement, and practical strategies. When a student doesn’t fully understand something, that’s where I come in — not just to repeat what they’ve heard in class, but to break it down, guide them through it, and help them truly grasp it in a way that works for them. I focus on building confidence, reducing frustration, and helping learners believe in their ability to succeed.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing the keyboard and exploring different styles of music. I also have a passion for languages and would love to learn Spanish and French in the future. Nature is another big part of my life — I love being in the bush, hiking, and playing golf. These interests help me stay grounded and energized, and I bring that same positivity and curiosity into every tutoring session.

Geruza B

Hi, I’m Geruza! I hold a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Johannesburg, and my academic journey started with a strong foundation in high school. In my matric year, I achieved three distinctions, including 86% for AP English, 81% for Afrikaans, and 87% for History. These achievements reflect my dedication to excellence, which I carry through to my tutoring approach.

I have over five years of tutoring experience, specializing in teaching Portuguese. I’ve had the privilege of working with learners of all ages—from children as young as 5 years old to adults in their 40s—helping them understand and speak Portuguese with confidence. I’ve tutored both individuals and small groups since 2019, and my goal is always to adapt my teaching methods to each student’s unique learning style. Whether they are more visually oriented or prefer auditory techniques, I aim to find the best way to connect with my students and help them achieve their full potential.

In my spare time, I not only enjoy teaching but also have a passion for learning new languages myself. This curiosity about languages fuels my enthusiasm for teaching Portuguese, as I understand the challenges and rewards that come with learning a new language. I am committed to guiding each of my students in their language learning journey, helping them grow and excel in Portuguese, one step at a time.
