Jess R
Hi, I’m Jess! I’m currently completing a Bachelor of Arts in Language and Culture, driven by my love for words, storytelling, and understanding different perspectives. In my matric year, I achieved seven distinctions, including 94% in both English and Afrikaans, 90% in History, and strong results across Maths, Geography, and Life Sciences. My academic journey has deepened my appreciation for language and the ways in which it shapes our world, and I love sharing that enthusiasm with my students.
As a tutor, my goal is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ways of thinking. I believe that every learner has a unique style, and I focus on identifying strengths while filling in any gaps in understanding. Whether it’s breaking down complex ideas, explaining concepts in different ways, or simply being there for support, I strive to be kind, compassionate, and accessible. Building a connection with my students is just as important as the academic progress they make, and I hope to help them build confidence in their abilities.
In my spare time, I’m passionate about musical theatre, writing, and reading. I also love spending time in nature, especially hiking, as it inspires my creativity. Embroidery and playing the piano are some of my favorite ways to unwind, and songwriting—along with singing—is a hobby that brings me immense joy. I believe that learning should be as enriching and fulfilling as any creative pursuit, and I bring that mindset into every lesson I teach.
